Coming to you from Starbucks

Well, we were having a doozy of a thunderstorm. I was talking on the CORDLESS phone to the Cat'r. Suddenly bright light, a "click", thunder, and all the power went off.

The power company says the electricity will be back on in two hours (from the time of the reporting of the outage). Bunnicula and I got a cab to the nearest Starbucks.

Our computers were off, so we don't have to worry about them when the power comes back on. We left the thermostat set at a low setting, so it'll get nice and cool (I hope) pretty quickly after the power comes back on.

Well, I'd better check the radar. ::sigh:: This is a great test run of my UMPC and the wireless keyboard!

Y'all have a lot of thunderstorms! Send some of that rain my way - my plants need it!

Well, you mean you want the rain, not necessarily the lightning and thunder? :-)

We're still about 7 inches down on rain here, even with the rain we've had recently. This is a cold front coming (blessed relief!). We are still under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9pm. :-/

I know what you mean re thunderstorms! But even with the storms we have every day our water levels here are still down too -- go figure! How did you like using your UMPC? Work okay at Starbucks? Inquiring minds want to know!

I LOVED using the UMPC at Starbucks! I just wish I had known there was a power strip in the middle of the table, in a recessed part. As it was, I plugged into a socket behind my chair.

All Starbucks have WiFi via T-Mobile Hotspots. You start up your computer, it tries to connect, and you are automatically taken to T-Mobile's site, so you can purchase time. They have different plans. I chose the pay-as-you-go, since I don't think I will be doing this on a regular basis (at least I HOPE not!). You set up an account, and it keeps track of how long you are online. Worked great!

There are other places around here that have free WiFi, but they weren't as close to home. When 2 hours had passed (the time Duke Energy said it would take to make the repair), B. walked back home from Starbucks, phoned me to let me know the power was back on, then walked back up to Starbucks. Then we waited and waited and waited for the taxi.

It was an adventure. :-P I loooove my little UMPC. :-)

I meant to get the photos up. I am going to try tonight. Storms delayed that. :-P
