Update on Mama

The latest on my mother is that she's BACK! But her speech still doesn't sound right still. Maybe that will come back, with some therapy. She's lucid and remembers everything (other than from the time she started acting strangely up until after the surgery, remembering only that they kept coming in to check on her every 2 hours, asking who the blasted President is! LOL!) She had a nice meal last night (roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple pie!) and this morning she had oatmeal, toast, and orange juice. The reason I am so ecstatic about the food is that they weren't sure if she would get her swallowing function back, which would've meant feeding through a tube in the stomach, at least for a while (yuck!). Anyway, the physical therapist will be testing her this afternoon to see what needs to be done to get her strength back. But things are looking pretty good. They have to see about her having some confusion at night, though. ::sigh:: But we're hoping for her to be able to come home and NOT have to go to any long-term care (nursing home). That would make her terribly depressed and not want to go on.

Thanks again for any good thoughts and energies, etc.!

Glad to hear that your mother is doing well. But couldn't they have asked a better question that "Who is the President?" If I had to say George W. Bush's name every two hours, I'd feel sick too!

I think they *did* ask her who was President before Bush also. :-P But I know what you mean! hehehe

::Big sigh of relief:: Probably should have simply looked ahead to todays post but I always seem to read them bottom up.

Please keep praying, though, as she needs physical therapy to get her strength back, balance too, maybe a few other things. That means going to another facility (i.e. nursing home) for a short while. My sister will be in close contact with them (wherever that ends up being--will hear later today, probably), to make sure they don't let Mama languish, but aggressively work with her. Then she'll be able to go back HOME! :-)
